LEVEL III NATO STANDARD
In 2009, the Russian Defense Ministry issued a requirement for a personnel carrier “Typhoon-K”, which should armoured, rapidly deployable and with all wheel drive capability. KAMAZ took on the contract to provide the Typhoon range of vehicles which subsequently grew to include 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 vehicles providing a standard base range of vehicles that could be adapted for varying rolls throughout the military.
The machine is listed as MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protection), providing mine protection for personnel. The vehicle meets level III NATO standard, including the protection of the crew against 14.5 mm calibre ammunition, armour-piercing rounds and incendiary bullets, as well as underside protection of 8 kg of TNT and 10 kg-under the wheel.
Armoured KAMAZ-53949 allows you to accommodate two crew members and eight troopers with kit. Combat weight is 14ton with a 350-horsepower Cummins Engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.
The KAMAZ-53949 is equipped with automatic locking center differential, independent hydro-pneumatic suspension, automatic tire inflation system.
The specialised on-board information and control system (CMSS) which is a condition tracking system checking performance, component availability and any technical issues, whilst monitoring the optimum parameters for movement (the ground clearance and suspension mode, etc.) and delivers the appropriate commands to the systems and mechanisms of the truck.
Testing will be completed by the end of 2015.
