A tiny pick-up truck has been designed to be sold for just under £2,400 and we’re not talking about a child’s electric toy! Named the Multix this Pick Up combines the Indian Rickshaw’s compact street agility with the Polaris’s off-road safety and ability to provide a four door, double cab, five-seat vehicle with 1,918 ltrs of storage/luggage space. It’s the brainchild from a mixed venture between U.S. Polaris and Eicher Motors who formed Eicher Polaris Pvt back in 2012, they wanted to produce a 3in1 vehicle, a Family Car, a Utility Truck and Generator and they have succeeded.
Aimed initially at the Indian business market to fit in with their current supply of trucks, tractors and motorcycles the Multix, Personal Utility Vehicle has a 600cc diesel engine capable of over 77 mpg, and with the clever addition of a X-PORT feature the motor converts to a generator providing 3kw of power for work tools or equipment. A durable ‘Flexituff’ body is fitted over a tubular frame providing a strong light structure with roll over protection whilst ground clearance is a respectable 225mm set on an independent suspension system so it’s fit to cope with rough roads and off-road tracks alike.
As yet there is only a 4×2 option, but murmurs of a 4×4 variant for future relase have been heard. Launched in thirty cities across India deliveries started in August 2015 with a choice of two designs in four colours, as yet there is no confirmation of plans to export the Multix but surely they can’t keep a little gem like this to themselves so fingers crossed as a small truck like this would be very useful to land management etc.
