The Can Am 6 Seat SxS Defender … for 2017

Only last year we reported on the new Can Am Defender SxS Utility that mashed up the work horse capability with the sporting fun of recreation.
Well Can Am have shown us they don’t sit on their laurels, by unveiling this Defender model for 2017 with a six person seating option and still plenty of room for gear in the load bed, in fact there’s more room!

Available later this year, Can Am are hailing it will benefit from improved stability with its long 115.5-inch chassis, that is 32.5 inches longer than the standard Defender.2017-CAN-AM-Defender-MAX-
The Defender MAX will be offered with the option of two engines: either a 72hp Rotax HD10 or a 50hp Rotax HD8 engine. Can Am says that both engine options will be mated to their PRO-TORQ Transmission with its exclusive Quick Response System (QRS) that is designed to enhance low speed riding and smoother gear shifting.
Can Am says the Defender MAX will lead the class in towing and payload but will increase in weight by nearly 137kg.
There are toggle switches to adjust the front and rear differentials, with the option to run 2×4 open rear diff or 2×4 lockable rear, or 4×4 open rear or 4×4 locked rear, each setting obviously catering to specific terrain conditions.

Stopping power will be provided by four-corner 220mm disc brakes with hydraulic twin-piston calipers. Can Am have fitted larger 26-inch tires to the MAX compared to the 25’s found on the bench seat Defender. The maximum ground clearance on the MAX tops out 10 inches, which is 1 inch less than the three seat Defender. The Defender MAX will still offer double A-arm front suspension and a Torsional A-Arm rear suspension with 10 inches of travel.
