Team X … bag 1st in Freelander Challenge Round 1

Round One of this years Defender Challenge got off to a flying start at Myherin in Mid-Wales, with the warmest (and sunniest) weekend of the year.

Team X who we are following this year came home with the 1st position title. Pat Masters, 2016 champion is defending his title for 2017 and has started as he means to go on.

Here it is in their own words;

10th April 2017

Round 1 – Pikes Peak – Wales

The sun shone warmly on the first round of the 2017 season, dust and low sun was the issue not snow like the previous year. The 5.1 mile lap was very fast in places with a steep climb and a rough descent to challenge the Freelanders.

Due to some external issues the planned 7 runs of day 1 were reduced to 4 and as the sun set on the Saturday, Team-X were in 3rd place, slightly off the pace, with a few seconds splitting them from 1st and 2nd.

Mongosport worked with Xceed Motorsport and adjusted some of the geometry settings on the car overnight as well as carrying out the usual checks.

Day two dawned with blue skies and 7 runs were completed. From the first corner it was apparent that the new setup gave a lot more stability and the confidence to push harder into the corners. This translated into reduced lap times and the gap narrowing between the leaders and Team-X.

After keeping pressure on the team moved up the leaderboard to 2nd and then on the last run they posted a time that would give them the win. 1st place on the 1st event of the year!

Many thanks go to all of the many sponsors who have helped to get the car to the start this year and continue to support the team through the season.

We look forward to round 2 in Radnor Forest in Wales on the weekend of 13th/14th May.

Get on board here with Team X  and join up.
