Registration has opened for the 4th Sahara Desert Challenge to be staged from 26th December – 9th January. Designed in the spirit of the original ‘Dakar Rally’ this race travels across five countries; Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal with final target Dakar. This year’s 4×4, motorcycle, 4×2, camper and truck route has been mapped to test skill, provide adventure plus it has achieved the title of cheapest Dakar ever. The only necessities to enter are the fee, appropriate motor, advanced knowledge of off road driving /navigation and a good sense of humour.
The Morocco Adventure is a special category running from 26th December – 2nd January. Finishing a week early resolves the problem for people who wish to participate but are unable to commit the full time or budget. This category allows full involvement from Portugal through Spain and Morocco finishing at Dakhla in Mauritania.
To make the Sahara Desert Challenge open to everybody, four occupants can rent a 4×4 to participate in the rally from the organisation. If you’d rather take the challenge on a motorbike, there is the option to hire a Yamaha XT 600 with rally kit.
Essential requirements for entry are being advertised as ‘a good dose of courage, spirit of adventure, ability to help and good humour’.
