Remember the MG badge, a UK automotive sports brand bought by Chinese company SAIC Motor in Shanghai. Well under the MG badge SAIC is introducing a ‘mid size’ 5-seater SUV the GTS to China this spring, the UK can expect to see it in 2016. MG are entering into the suv 4×4 Market with this first crossover offering.
The launch MG GTS has a 2L TDi petrol engine delivering an impressive 217bhp with 258lbs of torque. A six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox is fitted that will power all four wheels. A 1.9L diesel engine option is expected to be available in time for the European Market.
You many notice several similarities to the Renault Koleos, not a looker nor good sales success for the French auto manufacturer, but the MG does have the edge on a few angles.
Images released show a modern, chiselled look. Up grades include an active anti-roll system and ‘on demand’ four wheel drive system with an estimated 0-62mph in 8 seconds.
More information is expected 21st April at the Shanghai Auto Show.
