It’s that time of year again … Ultra 4 Racing King of the Hammers, probably the toughest off road race in the world.
The 11th annual KOH week will commence with Hammertown opening to the public on Friday February 3rd, (tomorrow) and will continue through to Saturday February 11th, 2017. The actual King of The Hammers race will take place on Friday, the 10th.
Ultra 4 founder Dave Cole says; “KOH 2016 was our biggest and most successful event to date. We look forward to continuing that momentum into 2017.” He added that the early announcement in March 2016 was to allow teams, vendors and support crew as much time as possible to prepare.
The event more than just a singular race, it’s a whole week of camping, socialising and competing with events for SxS UTVs, dirt bikes and various other vehicles leading up to the main event with Ultra4 cars.
Ultra4 vehicles look vaguely like the ultimate off roader on steroids with immense tyres and stubby bodies. The racing involves rock crawling, flat out desert sections and a lot of teamwork. There are more than a few sections where competitors have to winch each other through to continue.
All that is set in California’s Johnson Valley, where you can pretty much do whatever you want.
2017 promises to be bigger and better as followers and competitors of Ultra 4 continue to grow …
