After a long wait, Jeep has finally confirmed that a Wrangler pickup truck is on its way. Speculation has been rife, as we have previously reported , then came the spy shots in April from auto journalists out in the desert stumbling across a prototype testing, but only rumours have been heard from the Jeep camp until now.
The gap in the Jeep line up has been noted for several years now and many have wondered why, especially after Jeep’s concept truck the “Gladiator” which generated a huge amount of interest.
The Gladiator is now an 11 year old idea and many think that Jeep has paid the price for the slow take up of adding a utility pickup into their product line.
In 2011 CEO Mike Manley said it was too late in the Wrangler production cycle for a pickup variant to come forth, but in 2017 a new generation Wrangler is expected, so is now the time? Well yes … using the Detroit Auto Show as an announcement platform Jeep has confirmed a Wrangler pickup will come forth in 2017 based on the new Jeep Wrangler platform.
