Innovan … a new take on camping

The Innovan is ideal to get away with a lightweight trailer or bolt on pod for a Pick Up. Knowing you have everything you need whether it’s just for a weekend or that wild adventure ticked of the wish list, the Innovan gives you comfort whilst you get on with your journey.

The Australian designed Innovan camper combines the engineering and designer skills of father and son team Welby and Neil Davidson. Made from a fiberglass moulding system they ensure strength, insulation and all the important things required, 800kg/5500l of storage, two beds, shower, toilet, two kitchens, hot water, fridge, table and power points, hardly roughing it then! Airbags sit on an upgraded suspension to provide easily adjustable height for transit if you’re exploring and makes light work of levelling the van for a comfortable sleep or quick cuppa. For towing efficiency the camper roof slides down over the base providing a 2200mm transport height sealing and re-enforcing the trailer for off roading, once parked it takes 15 seconds to access any of the facilities, nudge the roof up on its gas rams to its full height of 3320mm, with out the aid of roll out canvas appears the awning, unfold the steps and open the door. Under the awning a kitchen sink, top, hob and BBQ slide out for an outside kitchen whilst on the other side is the out door taps and shower with a curtain to act as a cubicle or opened to form a windbreak allowing full enjoyment of the great outdoors.

Once inside the design really impresses as every space is utilised, mattresses lift to provide clothes and linen storage in the base and when the twin beds aren’t required, tilt them up to the roof out of the way for chairs and dinner, Cubby boxes are every where some expertly placed by the interior sink and cooker so everything is in easy stowaway reach. The Innovan’s well-designed space has been fitted into a length of 5000mm by 2150mm width and still only weighs in at 1200 kilograms. The stand alone/slide on version for the Pick Up weighs in at just 650 kilograms, fitted with independent drop down legs so the vehicle can be used on it’s own. Just goes to show with a bit of innovation and a lot of thought it’s not impossible, have your cake and eat it.
