Land Rover will be celebrating early for Christmas after the Discovery Sport achieved the maximum awarded stars from Euro NCAP for all round safety standards.
With several cutting edge safety features incorporated in to the Discovery Sport, two that are design firsts for the models category are AEBS or Autonomous Emergency Braking System and the Pedestrian Airbag.
The latter feature is deployed within 60 milliseconds of front-end impact with a pedestrian. The airbag is concealed under the upper surface of the bonnet and forward of the windscreen, its aim is to reduce impact injuries from the vehicle.
AEBS is monitored through an audio digital camera adjacent to the rear view mirror, its purpose is to detect obstructions in the path of the vehicle that may cause a collision. Upon detection of an object, visual and audio warnings are given then braking is automatically applied if impact is imminent.
Included in the vehicles safety features are the familiar driver and passenger airbags but also curtain airbags, thorax airbags and a driver’s knees air bag.
Reactor pretensioners are fitted to all seats, including the third row, and with a large array of electronic safety features even traffic sign recognition, you and the family are very well protected.
The Discovery’s roof strength is able to support the cars own weight by over four times , thanks to the new high strength body shell manufacturing process.
Murray Dietsch, Director of Programmes at Land Rover, stated;
“The vehicle safety team worked tirelessly to ensure that the Discovery Sport delivered levels of safety never before seen in the small SUV segment. We have introduced some cutting edge safety technologies such as the all-new pedestrian airbag and an innovative Autonomous Emergency Braking system, in addition to our tried-and-tested Land Rover safety systems.
“All of our products are tested to stringent in-house safety standards that go significantly beyond the legal and consumer testing standards. As a family vehicle, safety was really a key motivator when designing this car. We are proud to have made no compromises on this.”
