An African rally for the classics …

 

The 7th edition of the Clásicos del Atlas Rally, or the Classic Rally of the Atlas 2016 is set to for the 19th to 27th of March.
With competitors starting the prologue yesterday the event’s stage 1 began this morning in Tarifa, Morocco. With a total of seven stages this year, the teams will drive through the various terrains of the harsh Moroccan landscapes from mountains and barren rocky plains to finish within the desert dunes of the south.

The event is aimed at competitive fun and experience for all teams with the feel good factor of transporting humanitarian aid to help those less fortunate living in the isolated villages and hamlets of the Atlas mountains of the North African country. The donations will be distributed to schools, health centres and associations chosen by the rally organisers, and participates they will have to contend with the difficulties of transporting this extra weight through the first stages of the rally.
2×4 and 4×4 vehicles may all enter and are categorized in a like for like basis based on the completion requirements as set out below.competition4x4_rallye_clasicos_atlas
The outline rules of the competition are all vehicles must be over twenty years old, the team must be made up of two adults and a vehicle registered before the 31st of December 1996. The maximum weight authorised is 3.500kg, whilst preparation of the vehicle is not regulated, it must conform to the requirements of each category.

 

 

The vehicles categories are as follows;
  • 1: 2WD cars, vans and trucks, over 20 years old registered before the 31st of December 1996 with a maximum weight of 3.500kgs.
  • 2: 2WD cars, vans and trucks, over 30 years old registered before the 31st of December 1986 with a maximum weight of 3.500kgs.
  • 1: 4WD cars, vans and trucks, over 20 years old registered before the 31st of December 1996 with a maximum weight of 3.500kgs.
  • 2: 4WD cars, vans and trucks, over 30 years old registered before the 31st of December 1986 with a maximum weight of 3.500kgs.

As in previous years, there will be liaison and TSD (time/speed/distance) stages, all shown in the road handbook that will be distributed to competitors at the beginning of each stage.
