The 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter keeps the iconic look to go with its legendary abilities as a people mover, cargo hauler, and general-purpose utility vehicle. Thanks to a very diverse list of options from the manufacturer, and an even more expansive array of up-grade options in the aftermarket, the Sprinter is one of the most highly adaptable vans currently on sale. For the 2015 model year, a new 4×4 drive system with low-range function is offered.
Mated exclusively with the 3.0-liter V-6 Blue-TEC diesel engine, which generates 188 horsepower and 325 lb of torque, the new 4×4 option for the Sprinter increases its all-weather and all-terrain capability. The body is lifted by 4.3 inches at the front and 3.1 inches at the rear as well, increasing ground clearance to afford 20 % high slope-climbing ability. Activation of the 4×4 system requires a simple button push, which also activates the 4ETS electronic traction system with load-adaptive ESP to help improve its tractive ability. Axles are independent front and solid beam rear. The drive is split by 35% to the front axle and 65% to the rear, from recent independent test reports, it’s recommended that two wheel drive is used in most road operations, unless weather conditions stipulate otherwise. Off road it is said to be a very competent beast, with good axle articulation and very impressive traction capabilities. A second button engages the low-range gear that is an optional extra that further enhances rough terrain and steep slope abilities.
Aside from the new 4×4 option, the 2015 Sprinter carries forward the same equipment, features, and styling as the 2014 model. This includes the visual updates made last year, such as the new front bumper, higher bonnet, and revamped tail lights. Upgrades for safety technology are also available including, Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, High beam Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist. Brake Assist Pro and Adaptive Brake Assist further improving accident prevention abilities.
The 4×4 Sprinter is also going to the USA for a 2015 release date TBC.
