For automobile lovers the India 4×4 Week 2016, to be held in Dona Paula from July 22-24, promises to be a thrilling event to look forward to.
Goa is becoming quite the destination for automobile events. Super bike shows, car rallies, hi-profile launches and automotive trade shows, they are all making a beeline to the state.
The latest automobile event to announce their entry is the India 4×4 Week 2016, a first time event exclusively for vehicles with 4-wheel drive capabilities. It is off roading event for adventure seekers that is likely to offers an exciting range of activities looking at the schedule. The program includes displays from leading 4X4 vehicle manufacturers and offroad equipment manufacturers and distributors, test tracks, contests, off-road tracks and trails, night camping as well as knowledge, training and certification sessions.
Ground level check reveals that there is a growing demand for SUVs with fourwheel drive in India and the 4×4 Week is expected to appeal to them. The venue is Doan Paula and work is in full swing to prepare for the event. Hundreds of off-roaders from across the country will converge on Goa for the occasion, according to Delhi-based Cougar Motorsport Pvt. Ltd, the organisers.
Speaking to Team B&C, Ashish Gupta, founder and director, Cougar Motorsport, said that that is the first time that over 14 of India’s most prominent 4X4 clubs and institutions have collaborated with a national level convention with an aim of bringing together the entire 4X4 community of India. “Therefore, India 4X4 is the perfect avenue for a company in the 4 wheel drive space to connect with its target audience.”
The D-Max V-Cross, India’s first adventure utility vehicle manufactured by Isuzu Motors will be on display. The Max V-Cross is a tough and durable adventure utility vehicle with aggressive styling and a highly capable shift-on-the-fly 4WD. The vehicle also has some interesting contemporary features that offer customers premium driving experience with total safety. Visitors will get to experience the V-Cross first hand. Isuzu Motors is partnering some of the sessions at the event and the company will also display its new 4×4 single cab pickup truck of which there is only a single example in the country as yet.
Land Rover will be running test tracks and showcasing its vehicles. Customers will get to experience the Land Rover Discovery sport vehicles. Force Motors will have a static display of the Gurkha. Organizers are also in talks with Polaris to run a test track and host a knowledge session. Other vehicle manufacturers who will be a part of the event is Mitsubishi that will showcase the Pajero Sport.
For classic lovers, heritage vehicles will be on display, some of which will come from local collectors the rest are being driven from other parts of the country or being transported. The heritage vehicles include the Land Rover Series 2A, Defender and 110 amongst others.
The 4×4 Week is going to be held concurrently with the Rain Forest Challenge that is being held in Goa since 20914, says Gupta. The Rain Forest challenge has already picked up a reputation among adventure drivers and it attracts around 400 4×4 owners including lot of participants from Goa, he states. Both the events will basically attract for SUV and modified 4 wheel drive owners, says Gupta.
India 4×4 is hoping to become an event to build a reputation as other adventure 4WD events including the Dakar Rally Raid, the Australasian Safari, Pharaohs Rally, British Cross Country Championship (BCCC), Bresleau Rally and China Silk Road Rally to name a few.
